Dr. Shari Camarata, APRN, CNM, is a certified nurse-midwife who focuses on promoting health and well-being. Working as a team to provide evidence-based quality care during pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and throughout the lifespan, Shari leads the team.
When she relocated to Houston, TX, in 2006, with her newborn son. Shari noticed a huge gap in care in the area. Coming from a holistic background in Washington state, she knew that Texas could do better. Using this knowledge as fuel to fulfill her calling to serve the community, she chose to open Tulip Midwifery in December 2019.
Shari believes in a whole health approach, allowing bodies to function as designed. She has been in the Houston birth community for over 20 years, working as a DONA-trained doula, registered nurse in labor, birth, postpartum, and nursery. She currently holds a Doctoral degree in Nursing from Frontier Nursing University and loves to continue her education and teach.
Shari is active in the community with the Consortium of Texas Certified Nurse-Midwives, Greater Houston Midwives Alliance, March for Moms, B.I.R.T.H., and is actively working with advocacy groups to bring attention to and reduce maternal mortality and other health disparities.
One of my favorite things about being a midwife is seeing my clients make informed choices about their bodies.
Adilah Yelton, LM, CPM, is a mother of four and a wife to a veteran. Born in Saudi Arabia, she grew up moving across the world as an oil industry baby, living in Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Scotland, Texas, and New York. She considers Houston her home, having spent most of her life here. She attended the University of North Texas for a Bachelor of Fine Arts in ceramics before discovering her passion for birth work.
Her journey into birth support began after her first daughter’s birth in 2015. While living in New York City, she experienced firsthand the invaluable supportive role of a doula and a midwife. This inspired her to train as a birth doula. For eight years, she dedicated herself to providing emotional and physical support during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum before starting her path to midwifery.
In 2024, Adilah graduated from Southwest Wisconsin Technical College’s Direct-Entry Midwifery Program with an Associate Degree as a Certified Professional Midwife.
Adilah joined the Tulip Midwifery team in 2023. She is passionate about educating and empowering families, honoring informed choice, and helping create safe, supported, positive birth and postpartum experiences.
Adilah loves to go hunting with her father, travel the world when she gets the chance, lifting heavy at the gym, doing Pilates workouts, and enjoys staying in watching Korean dramas with her daughters.
Birth is intimate, and to be a midwife in that space is a humbling and sacred experience because when a baby is born, a mother is born too.
Nakida Clarke, BSN, RN, is honored to be part of the incredible team at Tulip Midwifery. As a proud U.S. military veteran, she served for six years, my time in service taught her the values of compassion, integrity, and resilience in putting others first. Nursing has always been her true calling, and she feels incredibly grateful to now live that dream by caring for women and growing families.
Nakida’s passion lies in women’s health, with a special love for pregnancy, labor and birth, and postpartum care. There is nothing more rewarding than walking alongside women during one of the most meaningful and life-changing experiences of their lives. Her goal is to ensure that every patient feels heard, supported, empowered, and cared for with kindness every step of the way.
From the moment I joined Tulip Midwifery, I was welcomed with open arms and made to feel like family. The warmth, compassion, and dedication of this team confirmed that this is exactly where I was meant to be. It is a privilege to work alongside providers who are deeply committed to personalized, family-centered care and to helping every mother feel confident and supported throughout her journey.
Mariah Brooks, RN, IBCLC, is a mother of three, a wife, a nurse, and an international board-certified lactation consultant. Mariah has been with Tulip Midwifery since Tulip’s first birth in 2020 and holds many roles, including administration, lactation, and nursing. She has breastfed her kids and supports Tulip clients both prenatally and postpartum. Fun fact, she was a Tulip client with her second and third.
Arifa Rashid is a RN whose career began in the NICU, caring for the most fragile newborns and their families. As a mother of two, she has experienced both a water birth and a home birth of her own — the latter with the Tulip Midwifery team — and that experience shapes the way she supports families today. With clinical skill, a photographer’s eye for the moments that matter, and a deep love for children, Arifa is honored to walk with families through the sacred beginning of a life as Tulip’s Lead Birth Assistant.
Arifa shares, ‘Before my first child was born, I had no idea that a few years later I would become a nurse working in women’s health. My water birth experience was one of the best and most amazingly real things I’ve ever gone through, and afterwards it felt like God had granted me a new set of eyes to see the world. It exponentially increased my passion to help women during one of the most vulnerable moments of their lives, and to do it with love and care.
The world may take for granted all that a woman does, but we do not have to.
